Christian Aid week draws to its close, but the work of Christian Aid (and fund raising) continue. As well as the door to door collection there have been various activities and our coffee morning raised £1200. Broughty Ferry churches worked together to produce a flower festival with each church producing displays, and photos are on a special page.  One thought from last Sunday's Christian Aid service - £20 seems a lot to put into a collection, but not very much towards filling the car

Welcome to Barnhill St Margaret's  Parish Church

Our church is found in Barnhill, part of Broughty Ferry by Dundee. We would love to have you join us. You can find directions to our church here.

We do hope you find this website a friendly and personal introduction to our parish, however we do realise this is just a website and the best way to get to know us is to come along .

St. Margaret’s was founded as a place for worship. We value worship, service and mission. And you will find out more of what we do on this website.

There is further information about our services, events, and our organisations -just follow the links in the menu above.

There is a crèche during the Sunday service, and lifts to church are available for the less mobile and a loop induction system is fitted in the church.

We seek to witness to Jesus Christ not only on a Sunday, but in what we do throughout the week. Find out more about some of our regular activities throughout the week.

A letter from the manse

Dear Friends

There is a principle in teaching called the principle of the irreducible minimum. That is when you boil everything down until it cannot be boiled down anymore. You have the essence, then, of whatever it is you are trying to teach. One of those irreducible minimums of the Bible is tucked away in the Old Testament book of 1 Chronicles. There you will find the prayer of Jabez.

‘Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be upon me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain”. And God granted his request’.

This prayer touches on four major desires God has for everyone and boils down to four simple requests that are repeated throughout the New Testament. In fact, when you pray the prayer of Jabez, you are asking God to let you do every-thing He wants you to do. What a wonderful prayer! I challenge you to make this prayer for blessing part of the daily fabric of your life in 2012.

As part of the daily fabric of the church office we have leased a new photocopier. The ‘Summer Issue’ of the newsletter will be a NEW style with a NEW editorial team. It has been decided, with the agreement of the Kirk Session, to give elders the responsibility of delivering these to members in their own district from then on. Thank you very much to all our volunteers who have faithfully delivered these in the past and to Walter McCandless and his ‘teams’ who gave up their Friday mornings to collate, staple and fold our Newsletters . Your help and support has been greatly appreciated.

Wishing you every blessing

Your friend and minister

Susan

HOSPITAL VISITING – A REQUEST FROM THE MINISTER

I normally visit people in hospital once a week.  With the Data Protection Act the hospital authorities no longer advise ministers that someone has been admitted to hospital.  I would therefore be most grateful if people could let me know when someone in the parish is admitted to hospital, preferably by giving the hospital and ward number.

There are cards on the pews which can be completed with this information and these can either be placed in the offering plate or handed to myself or one of our ‘Welcome Team’ on a Sunday.

Alternatively drop me an email (susan.sutherland@sky.com) or telephone me (779278).

Thank you.

 Susan (Minister)

EVENING SERVICES

These informal services are held on the last Sunday of the month in our hall. In March we will look at the visit to the Holy Land. April will be as usual in the hall but then in May we will have our barbecue followed by Holy Communion.
