30th B Brownies (Thursday)

During the summer term we hope to complete all our different activities in order for us to achieve the “Adventure 100” badge (to celebrate Girlguiding UK’s centenary) which comprises of 10 different topics, each topic having 10 choices of “adventures”. For the “future” topic, the girls designed the Brownie uniform and badges they thought we would have in 2015 (interestingly lots of green was featured) and for “ice cool” they designed trendy t-shirts using material, listing the fabric to use, the benefits of the design and what age group the t-shirt would be suitable for!

Under the “moving” topic, we took the train from Dundee to Monifieth and then walked back to the Church Hall along the costal path. Although it was a sunny evening, the stiff sea breeze cleared any cobwebs we had. The last topic we have to complete is “up high” and we plan to visit The Law as we reckoned we couldn’t get much higher than that in Dundee!

In addition, we are working towards our “Disability Awareness” badge and are welcoming visitors to Brownies to help us with this. A Brownie mum who has a Guide Dog came to talk to the girls about how puppies are trained as Guide Dogs and to talk about her own dog, who is about to retire from duty. We had another Brownie mum teach the girls sign language and a friend of one our Leaders who is in a wheelchair is to visit as well.

Just before the end of the term, 18 Brownies will be attending the Scottish Brownie Centenary day at Scone Palace which has a carnival theme and they will be sharing that experience with almost 1,500 other Brownies and their Leaders!

However, the highlight of the term (if not the year!) was our annual Brownie Holiday weekend at Newbigging in Perthshire at the end of May. The theme was “Alice in Wonderland” and 24 of our 25 Brownies attended. We had lots of fun and need a long holiday to recover after all that!
