Chi Rho

Chi Rho Traidcraft stall

Chi Rho is the name adopted by the youth section of the Junior Church. Members span the school age band S2 - S6, but we have several young adults , now in tertiary education, who keep in touch and join us between semesters.

The group provides a vital link between young and not so young in the congregation, regularly contributing to - and occasionally leading - Sunday worship.

The Chi Rho Cross The Chi Rho Cross

The Greek word for Christ is Christos and the Greek lettering is Χριστος. The first letter 'Χ'(chi) is shaped like a cross and the second letter 'ρ' (rho) from the monogram of Christ (Christmon).

The Glorious 12th !!!

On 12th August, at the unearthly hour of 8.30am– well it WAS the school holidays, Angela and Ian, the Chi Rho leaders, set off for Glenshee – destination the Compass Christian Centre.

Accompanying them on an ‘outward bound’ adventure were Craig, Matthew, Mark, Sarah, Kirsty, Caitlin, Sam and Ross from Junior Church and Chi Rho - ages ranging from P7 to S4.

What a smashing day we had ! The weather wasn’t too bad – but it didn’t matter anyway as we all - with the disappointing exception of Angela – ended up underwater during the raft race. (note to Kirsty and Caitlin – knot practice, 10.30am, Sundays till further notice!)

Apart from rafting, we had time for a forest rope scramble, archery and zip wire, with a picnic lunch squeezed in. We were extremely well looked after by Compass staff throughout, and all the youngsters had a great time. There was a good feeling of ‘togetherness’ in the group and everyone supported and encouraged each other when things got wet or wobbly.

All in all, it was a great learning experience for all of us and we hope this will create a baseline from which future trips can be planned.

Traidcraft

Jonel

We are continuing to run our Traidcraft stall and thanks to continued support from the congregation, we have been able to raise our monthly donation to Signpost International to £19. Many thanks to all of you who are helping with that.

During Fair Trade Fortnight (Feb 23rd – March 8th) we will be talking to the Junior Church about Fair Trade and Traidcraft and showing them how they can help. We also hope to talk to the congregation about how they can continue to help. Once Fair Trade Fortnight is over, our Sundays will be spent preparing part of the worship on Mothering Sunday. We are managing to work in the Vestry on Sunday mornings – it’s quite crowded when we are all present on a Sunday - we are looking forward to the completion of the new hall!

With the funds raised the group have undertaken a commitment to sponsor a needy child in The Philippines. Johnel, the little boy whom Chi Rho sponsors - via Signpost International - was 12 on the 21st April 2008. Anna made him a card and we sent a small gift along with our birthday greetings.
